A major supplier of plastic automotive components plans to establish its first U.S. facility in eastern Michigan, state and company officials announced.
Axiom Engineered Systems, a subsidiary of Canadian injection-molded auto components giant Axiom Group, plans to invest more than $13 million in a new manufacturing site in Capac, Michigan.
Axiom specializes in thermoplastic injection molding, as well as design, prototyping, manufacturing, and testing and validation services. Michigan officials said the company’s customers include most major automotive original equipment manufacturers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Italy.
The project is expected to create more than 200 new jobs and has secured over $50 million in additional business. Operations are expected to begin within the next eight months, according to Axiom Group President and CEO Perry Rizzo, and the company will continue to invest upwards of $30 million in other U.S. facilities.
The company is eligible for a state grant of more than $1.2 million, provided it meets project investment and hiring goals. The village of Capac also offered Axiom a property tax abatement.
