What: Somerset Road is one of the most distinguished roads in Roland Park with a wide variety of houses in many classical styles. The house at 502 Somerset Road is a classic colonial, with all of the features that distinguish that style: two to three stories with a rectangular or square shape; a gabled roof and dormer windows; door in the exact center of the home and the same number of windows on either side of the door; decorative crown over the front door supported by pillars or columns; and grand entrances that lead into living areas.

This house is filled with countless beautiful architectural details including copious crown moldings, numerous columns, leaded glass windows, hardwood floors and even a turret! As you enter through the beautiful front door with its leaded fanlight, you come into a large center hall, featuring classically elegant, fluted Doric columns. Behind the living room is a large family room with its own fireplace.

Unusually, the kitchen is just off the entry hall, behind a set of multi-paned French doors. Where: Somerset is on the southern end of Roland Park, and is a five-minute walk, or an even shorter drive to the shops and services at the Rotunda. The library, schools and Starbucks is just a mile or so north on Roland Avenue. It’s an easy drive to get to the JFX. Somerset is a very quiet street.

Final Appraisal: Somerset is one of the less well-known streets in Roland Park as it originates from the “corner” of Roland Avenue and University Parkway, and is one-way for part of its length. The houses along Somerset date from the earliest years of the 1900s, and feature a wide range of architectural styles. Some of the most beautiful houses in Baltimore are along Somerset Road.
